Audi unveils A7 Sportback quattro

Audi is getting ready for the winter season with new all-wheel drive additions to its A7 Sportback range.

The German manufacturer has equipped the Quattro model with its 'entry level' V6 TDI engine. Buyers can reserve the Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Quattro from August.

A standard trim will also be offered for this engine, which means prices for the A7 range will now start lower than before, from £39,995.

Available only with the front-wheel-drive and eight-speed multitronic continuously variable transmission until now, the engine in the standard 3.0-litre TDI form will power the Sportback from 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds.

It promises maximum speed of 146mph, with a fuel economy of 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions at 135g/km.

Audi A5 and S5 will get this facelift for 2013

The Audi A5 and S5 coupes and cabriolet will be freshened for 2013 with most of the changes on the exterior -- the most obvious being a restyled front end with cues from the new A7 that just went on sale.

Up front, the A5's new headlights (xenon option), redone LED running lights, new bumper and new fog lights are more chiseled and closely match its 2012 A6 and A7 siblings. The rear lights also have been redesigned, too, but the changes in the rear are less dramatic changes than those up front.


The biggest change in powertrains is that the S5 gets a news engine. Gone will be the 4.2-liter V-8 that's been available since the S5's launch as a 2008 model. While we'll miss the burly sounds of the 354-horsepower V-8, we like the new engine: the 333-hp., 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 that currently powers the A6 and A7. Performance all-wheel drive with torque vectoring will be standard.

The A5 retains the 211-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission and available with front or all-wheel drive. An Audi representative tells our friend Joe Bruzek of Cars.com's Kicking Tires that the new 272 hp., supercharged 3.0-liter that will be found in European A5 models isn't U.S.-bound at the moment.
